I eat cereal for breakfast on weekday mornings, but for the past few months I’ve been adding some toppings. One of these additions is a deliciously nutty-tasting blend of nuts and seeds, finely ground together, and rich in anti-oxidants, healthy omega fatty acids, and protein. Basically, it’s a preservative-free superfood blend!
Finely ground, filling, uber-super-duper healthy, and did I mention it’s oh-so-tasty? This blend is so easy to make, there’s really no excuse for buying potentially preservative-filled superfoods at your supermarket. Just whiz up your own super-food blend at home, in less than 30 seconds!
The magic mixture? A combination of linseeds, also known as flax seeds (full of healthy omega fatty acids); sunflower seeds (full of healthy fatty acids, protein, B-complex vitamins, and vitamin E, plus more); and almonds (protein-rich, anti-oxidant rich, just plain yummy).
Vitamins, minerals, healthy fatty acids, anti-oxidant rich, full of protein…the question is not why eat LSA, but why NOT eat LSA! I mean, delicious AND super-healthy? Um, yes, please!
Enough jibber-jabber, let’s get this healthy and preservative-free superfood blend on the road! On the road to your tummy, that is! (#momjoke #owningit)
I’ve seen this recipe on several different sites, so I don’t know who the original creator was. I actually came across a reference to LSA when I was on Instagram and then had to google it, because a food that I had not heard about? Whaaaaat? Anyway, it’s easy-peasy to make yourself.
LSA Mix: A Keto-Friendly Superfood Blend
This superfood blend takes 30 seconds to make up, and is high in anti-oxidants, omega fatty acids, protein, and is keto-friendly to boot!
Ingredients
- 3 parts flax seeds
- 2 parts sunflower seeds
- 1 part almonds
Instructions
- Put all ingredients in a blender.
- Blend for 30 seconds or until everything is finely ground.
- Store in an air-tight container, ideally in the fridge.
By the way, a bit of trivia: did you know that the almond is actually not a nut, but a seed from the fruit of the almond tree? So technically, this is fully a seed blend. The things you learn when researching blog posts, I tell you what!
Oh, and I mention that it’s a keto-friendly superfood mix, because a lot of people are doing that keto diet lately. The DH is actually doing a modified version of it, for health reasons. So if you’re eating keto, you can def make this recipe!
I use this preservative-free superfood blend on my morning cereal, but you can easily add it to muffins, breads, cookies…the list goes on. If you make this, comment and let us know your favourite way to use it!
Next Post: I’m hoping to have the time to put together a post about 5 Preservative-Free Lunches You Need to Make This Week, but we’ll see. Having a baby is time-consuming! So worth it, though. If I don’t have time, I might post about a new Copycat White Cheddar Smartfood popcorn blend that I came up with. It’s rather yummy!
